Dr. David Bottjer, University of Southern California – Global Warming and Mass Extinctions

In today’s Academic Minute, Dr. David Bottjer reveals how past periods of global warming caused mass extinctions and how similar patterns are appearing in the oceans today.  

David Bottjer is a professor of Earth sciences, biological sciences, and environmental studies at the University of Southern California. His research specialties include geobiology, evolutionary paleoecology, paleobiology, paleoclimatology, paleoenvironmental analysis,  and paleogenomics. His current project seeks to obtain a detailed understanding of the end-Permian and end-Triassic mass extinctions. He holds a Ph.D. from Indiana University.
