Republican New York Congressman John Faso hosted U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue Thursday at two Columbia County farms. Farmers’ concerns focused on securing a reliable workforce and how to keep dairy farmers afloat.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue was in upstate New York Monday. He was joined by local lawmakers to hear from grain and dairy farmers.

Perdue joined Republican Congressmembers John Faso of the 19th House District, Elise Stefanik of the 21st, and Claudia Tenney of the 22nd. They toured the King Brothers dairy shop in Schuylerville and WestWind Agricultural supply in Schagticoke.

President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday announced the last of his cabinet nominees.  Former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue has been chosen to lead the Agriculture Department.  Farm advocates in our region say it’s a good choice and are hopeful he will be a strong advocate on key agricultural issues.
