WAMC's The Book Show Celebrates New Guests, New Theme

Book Show Logo

WAMC/Northeast Public Radio is excited to announce a new season of guests and a re-brand of its popular syndicated program The Book Show. The change includes a new logo and new theme music.

Each week on The Book Show, host Joe Donahue interviews authors about their books, their lives and their craft. It is a celebration of both reading and writers.

Upcoming guests include Adam Gopnik, Ann Hood, Claire Messud, 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Tyehimba Jess, "America's Librarian" Nancy Pearl, Marvin Kalb, and Kurt Andersen. The first program with the new theme music will feature Salman Rushdie and will air on WAMC the week of September 18th.

Donahue says, "I am very excited to have our listeners hear from these amazing voices in literature. It is a very good season for books, which will be reflected in our upcoming in-depth discussions with these masters of their craft."

Used with his permission, the new music is the instrumental track of "Joy to You Baby" by singer-songwriter Josh Ritter. The song is from his 2013 album The Beast in Its Tracks. Donahue and producer Sarah LaDuke are fans of Ritter. When he was at WAMC for an interview, he informed them that, while living in the Hudson Valley, he regularly listened to the station.

"He said to let him know if he could ever do anything for us," LaDuke says. "When we knew we wanted to change the music – we looked to his albums, checked with his management, and here we are!"

The Book Show airs on WAMC/Northeast Public Radio Tuesdays at 3 p.m. and Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. The show is also available online (http://wamc.org/programs/book-show), via podcast (https://wamcpodcasts.org/the-book-show/), and can be followed on Twitter: @The_Book_Show.

WAMC President and CEO Dr. Alan Chartock serves as executive producer of The Book Show.
