Well, the mums and foliage are giving us that last shock of color before we enter the winter doldrums and what better way to celebrate the turning of the seasons than getting out of our homes to enjoy it. And boy, do I have an event for you to come to – and the best part is that it’s FREE!
On Thursday, October 15th at 7PM, WAMC, in partnership with WMHT and NPR, will be hosting NPR Presents: Family Matters at the University at Albany’s recital hall. This is your chance to get the skinny on some import ant issues and ask your questions about the financial pressures you’re facing. And what’s an event without some awesome famous people in attendance? Our hosts for the evening are none other than NPR Morning Edition host David Greene, and NPR Business correspondent Yuki Noguchi.
Greene and Noguchi will be joined on stage by personal finance experts Louis Barajas, founder and chief wealth and business manager at LAB Financial Life Solutions and Michelle Singletary, nationally-syndicated personal finance columnist for the Washington Post, to help audience members gain greater confidence in their financial futures.
The panel will discuss and help you navigate topics such as first-time loans as a college student, or a new mortgage as a third-time home buyer and how both come with risks but also opportunities. This live (and lively) event will be driven by an audience ready to talk strategy, so come prepared with questions! We’ll be discussing things like accumulating debt and amassing wealth, saving for college, home ownership, retirement planning and even fitting in a midlife extravagance or two.
Now here’s a secret -- not only is the date of this fabulous event October 15th but it’s my birthday, too. I can’t think of a better way to begin a new year of my life than attending this event with our listeners. I know in my [cough] decade, I have a ton of financial matters that need tending to including huge student loans, a mortgage, and family planning, and I have no clue to get the latter with the former hanging over my head.
