7-Year-Old Injured In Albany Shooting

Albany Police are investigating a Clinton Street shooting that injured two people Sunday, including a 7-year-old boy.

At about 3:20 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired by Clinton Street and Second Avenue, where they found the boy with a gunshot wound to the knee. Police say the boy appeared to have been struck by a stray bullet, and was transported to Albany Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Shortly after, police say a 30-year-old man entered Albany Med with gunshot wounds to the leg and buttocks. Police determined he was also injured in the shooting and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The incident is the latest in what has been a particularly violent summer for the city. Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan denounced the shooting Sunday night, adding: “The depraved indifference involved in shooting a gun in the presence of a child is difficult to fathom, and callous acts like these will not be tolerated in our city.” She’s asking anyone with information to contact the Albany Police Department at (518) 462-8039.
