The parent company that runs the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany is suing hip-hop group Migos stemming from a melee at a 2015 concert.
The lawsuit was filed by Albany Basketball & Sports Corporation in connection with incidents that took place during a Migos performance on March 7th, 2015 at the arena.
Six men were stabbed at the show and a woman was assaulted and robbed.
Joe Bonilla is spokesman for the Washington Avenue Armory. "A number of individuals were stabbed and had caused considerable issues to the building in terms of its future operations, and led to really a lot of disruption in terms of the programming and events that could have taken place within the Armory. There was unwarranted negative media attention and subsequent government actions that were taken against the Armory stemming directly from that event in which an undue burden has been placed against the Armory's operation and ability to attract programming."
Three Albany Police officers were injured during an October 2012 incident at the Armory, when a "foam party" got out of hand. Seven people were arrested. The city issued a cease and desist order compelling the Armory to stop holding events other than sports. The two sides eventually reached an agreement allowing the Armory to host concerts and dance parties as well as sporting events.
Lately, the Armory has been host to the latest iteration of the Albany Patroons basketball team. "Right now the Armory is trying to figure its place within the programming and events world if you will, the landscape, given the Albany Capital Center and the Times Union Center and other competitive venues, so, at this point we're just looking to rectify what took place three short years ago."
Concerts at the Washington Avenue Armory were temporarily suspended after the Migos appearance three years later when questions were raised about the venue's security.
The document filed in Albany County Court seeks an unspecified amount.
