Boston, MA – The Massachusetts legislature has begun the second year of their two-year session on Beacon Hill. WAMC's Paul Tuthill reports...

The House and Senate met in formal sessions Wednesday for the first time since before Thanksgiving, but the gatherings were largely ceremonial.

Senate President Therese Murray said the senate next week will debate a bill that addresses abuses uncovered during investigations of a special education collaborative.

It found lavish spending on entertainment and improper charges to a related nonprofit group . Also ahead this year will be debate on major legislation designed to rein in health care costs by creating a system of so-called global payments.

By rules, this legislative session ends on the last day of July.
