Gov. Cuomo announces relaxed capacity limits

Governor Andrew Cuomo said Monday that some remaining COVID-19 restrictions in New York will end in a couple of weeks, including capacity limits on events, and in some cases, the 6-foot social distancing rule. The Democrat also announced that 24-hour subway service will return to New York City.

Next year’s race for governor in New York has officially begun.

Republican leaders in New York gathered in Albany Monday to hear from potential gubernatorial nominees, who would go on to compete next year against either Gov. Andrew Cuomo, or whichever Democrat lands on the ticket in his place.

Relatives of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and others with connections to him received special access to coronavirus tests a year ago when testing was scarce, according to published reports in newspapers.

The New York State Assembly Judiciary Committee held its first meeting of an impeachment inquiry into Governor Andrew Cuomo Tuesday, over allegations that he sexually harassed several women, as well as other controversies. But the chair of the committee, Democrat Charles Lavine, says it could be quite a while before it reaches any conclusions.

One day after a report that Governor Andrew Cuomo “aggressively groped” a female aide when she was summoned to the executive mansion, more state lawmakers are putting pressure on  the governor to resign, or to at least step aside while the charges are investigated. The incident has been referred to the Albany Police department, according to the New York Times.

February was not a kind month to the governor.  Earlier, the state Attorney General issued a report that documented that the Administration had significantly undercounted COVID deaths in nursing homes.  That revelation and the Administration’s admission that they had withheld data from the Legislature and the public roiled the Capitol and became Albany’s focus.

New York state legislative leaders were calling for an independent investigation Saturday night after the second woman in a week came forward to accuse third-term Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment. Charlotte Bennett, a 25-year-old former Cuomo staffer, told the New York Times the governor made what she understood to be sexual advances during the height of the pandemic last year.

Two former female aides to Governor Andrew Cuomo are accusing him of bad behavior, with one saying the governor sexually harassed her in incidents that included inappropriate touching and an invitation to play strip poker. Cuomo denies the allegations.

The big news in Albany last week was the dramatic report released by the New York State Attorney General’s office.  The report examined the Cuomo Administration’s estimates on the number of nursing home patients who died due to COVID-19.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo joined other Democrats in the country Friday in calling for President Donald Trump to immediately resign from office, and said Congress should remove him if he’s not willing to leave before his term ends in less than two weeks.
