The USDA contract with the company that processes SNAP payments at farmers’ markets has ended. And while New York has come up with a stopgap measure until the end of the season, farmers’ markets that were not yet online are left on hold. Such is the case for the Poughkeepsie Waterfront Market, which is operated by the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum. WAMC’s Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Allison Dunne spoke with museum Executive Director Lara Litchfield-Kimber about what’s next.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand paid a visit to a farmers market in Poughkeepsie Monday. It provides access to fresh and healthy foods in a high-poverty, urban area. Gillibrand was there to demand an investigation into a move by the USDA to end processing of SNAP payments at farmers markets.

In what has become a rite of spring,  the Hannacroix eel net will be installed this afternoon in the Hannacroix Creek near the Albany/Greene County line. WAMC's Capital Region Bureau Chief Dave Lucas has the next story in our spring series.
