Children's Museum Initiates Peace Rock Project

In New York, the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum has launched a community art project in response to both COVID-19 and nationwide protests against systemic racism.

The "Peace Rock Project" is to promote messages of hope, healing and unity. The Poughkeepsie-based Museum invites families to hand-paint rocks with words and images of hope, healing, unity and love. Community members can then bring the decorated rocks to the Museum and add them to any of the many gardens there. Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum Executive Director Lara Litchfield-Kimber says children need love, structure and ways to express their feelings during times of significant uncertainty and unrest, and she hopes the project will give families an avenue to do this. The main museum is still closed because of COVID-19 restrictions.
