In February, Adirondack interests raised concerns about a proposal in Governor Andrew Cuomo’s budget that would shift how New York pays property taxes to local communities on lands it owns in the Adirondacks. A “Forever Taxable” Coalition formed to oppose a cap and Payment in Lieu of Taxes system in the Adirondacks and Catskills. The effort was successful and the idea was removed from the final budget. But concerns remain that such a proposal could re-appear in the future.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s budget plan includes a proposal to shift how the state pays property taxes to local communities on lands it owns in the Adirondacks.  Regional representatives, municipalities and conservation groups say it would be a bad idea to shift to a PILOT, or Payment in Lieu of Taxes, system.

A leading budget watchdog group is accusing New York Governor Andrew Cuomo of fudging the numbers in his state budget to appear to stay within his self imposed 2 percent per year spending cap.

Members of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s cabinet are fanning out across New York to outline his budget proposal before business groups, organizations and legislative bodies.  On Monday, Essex County Supervisors heard the recap and questioned key points of the plan.

Though they were overshadowed by news of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s arrest, members of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s cabinet fanned out across the state to present his budget directly to community leaders today. In Plattsburgh this afternoon, the Director of Veterans Affairs outlined the budget’s North Country highlights.
