Sports Report: Slew Of New Coaches For NFL Teams, Mariota To Enter Draft

NFL football

NFL:

A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that former Dallas and Buffalo head coach Chan Gailey will be the New York Jets' offensive coordinator under new coach Todd Bowles. Gailey was out of football the last two seasons after being fired as the Bills' coach after the 2012 season.

The San Francisco 49ers have promoted longtime defensive line coach Jim Tomsula to head coach. The Oakland Raiders have hired former Jacksonville head coach Jack Del Rio to replace interim coach Tony Sparano.

Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Marcus Mariota is bypassing his senior year at Oregon to enter the NFL draft. Mariota won virtually every major college award this season, while setting a Pac-12 record with 58 TD passes in a season.

Prosecutors in Indianapolis have filed charges of rape, criminal confinement with bodily injury and battery resulting in bodily injury against backup Colts linebacker Josh McNary.

McNary has been with the Colts for two seasons after finishing his college career as Army's all-time leader in sacks and tackles for loss. McNary spent two years on active duty to fulfill his military obligation before signing with Indy in 2013.

The Colts issued a statement saying they're aware of the allegations and were gathering details before saying anything further.

Indianapolis faces New England in Sunday's AFC championship game.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver says he wants the for-sale Atlanta Hawks to stay put and says he has made it "clear to the market" that the league wants the team to stay in Atlanta. Silver was speaking to reporters in London before Thursday's game between the Knicks and Bucks.
