The New York Jets have reached an agreement with Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles to make him their head coach. Bowles told ESPN that he was taking the job.

Meanwhile the Jets have hired Houston Texans executive Mike Maccagnan as their general manager, replacing the fired John Idzik. Maccagnan was Houston's director of college scouting and the only GM candidate who received a second meeting with the Jets.

The NBA has suspended Kevin Garnett for one game and fined Dwight Howard $15,000 for their altercation on Monday in Houston's victory over Brooklyn. The league says Garnett initiated the altercation and head-butted Howard. The league adds in its statement that Howard pushed Garnett in the neck area, agreeing with the referees that the Rockets center did not throw a punch.

A spokesperson for Mikhail Prokhorov says the Nets owner is open to offers for the team but that no sale is imminent. Bloomberg News, citing two people with direct knowledge of the matter, reported yesterday that Prokhorov had retained Evercore Partners to sell the team.
