Democratic Congressman Peter Welch was at the University of Vermont’s Larner College of Medicine on Friday to challenge the leader of the U.S. Senate to bring a piece of legislation to a vote.
Last week the U.S. House passed legislation that provides so-called “Dreamers” a path to citizenship. Welch says he was inspired by a one attending the medical school and stood beside him as he challenged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to bring the measure to a vote. “You vote whatever way you want but let the full Senate vote. If we had that vote it would pass because there’s a number of Republicans who know that Juan Conde and others deserve to have status. So Senator McConnell let the Senate vote.”
