A congressional field hearing is scheduled in Massachusetts Monday on the Merrimack Valley gas explosions.

With thousands of families spending the frigid Thanksgiving holiday without heat or hot water, or living in temporary housing, Columbia Gas Company officials can expect to be grilled about the cause of the September disaster and the pace of repairs.

Two weeks later, Beacon Hill lawmakers will hear testimony.

Columbia Gas has a lot to answer for, according to Democratic State Senator Eric Lesser of Longmeadow.

" Columbia gas needs to fix their infrastructure," said Lesser in a recent interview.

Gov. Charlie Baker has filed legislation that is intended to strengthen natural gas safety procedures.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
