A second suspect has been arrested a week after a teen was shot in the woods of Washington, Massachusetts.

Police made the first arrest in Pittsfield about 12 hours after the shooting at 1 a.m. August 21st. The next day, 19-year-old Kevin Nieves pleaded not guilty to four charges, including armed assault with intent to murder and kidnapping. Tuesday, 23-year-old Luis Del Valle-Rodriguez pleaded not guilty to three charges — including those Nieves faces — in Westfield District Court. He is being held in the Berkshire House of Corrections until a September 11th dangerousness hearing. The Berkshire District Attorney’s office confirmed to WAMC that Del Valle-Rodriguez was arrested Saturday in Pittsfield by Pittsfield Police. The DA’s office has still not released the name of the victim, only identifying him as a 19-year-old.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
