Students in Pittsfield, Massachusetts participated in Friday’s global climate strike.

Area students and their supporters demonstrated in Park Square against what they say is ongoing government inaction on climate change. One of the organizers – 17-year-old Aviva Skoblow from Pittsfield High School – summed up their message.

“We’re fed up. We know what’s going on. The science backs it up," said Skoblow. "And we can’t vote yet, so we need people who are older than us to take action – and if they don’t, we will.”

The participants from PHS held a walkout and rally at the public high school before continuing on to Park Square. They were joined by students from Miss Hall’s School as well as Democratic state Senator Adam Hinds.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange.
