Officers Involved In Fatal Shooting Of Robbery Suspect Identified

Vermont State Police have released the names of the officers involved in the shooting death of a robbery suspect on the grounds of the Montpelier High School on Tuesday.
32-year-old Nathan Giffin allegedly robbed the Vermont State Employees Credit Union and fled to the high school athletic field across the street. He was shot by the police and pronounced dead at a local hospital.  Giffin was holding a handgun when he was shot.

Police have not said how many rounds were fired or how many times Giffin was hit.

The Vermont State Police say Sergeants Cory Lozier, Lyle Decker, Eugene Duplissis, Charles Winn, David White, Troopers Christopher Brown, Brandon Degre, Isaac Merriam, and Montpelier Police Department Corporal Michael B. Philbrick all discharged their firearms during the shooting.

The Washington County State’s Attorney and Vermont Attorney General will determine if the officers were justified in their use of deadly force.
