A state senator is encouraging Western Massachusetts residents to participate in the 83rd Citizens' Legislative Seminar.

Democratic State Senator Adam Hinds – who represents the Berkshire, Hampshire, Franklin and Hampden district – says the event is a tonic for Massachusetts residents frustrated by Washington gridlock and looking to learn more about how laws are crafted at the state level.

“It’s a two-day seminar, you get involved with Senators themselves and staff and really get to understand what happens day-to-day in the legislature,” said Hinds.

The seminar takes place October 22nd and October 23rd, and is hosted by Massachusetts Senate President Karen Spilka – also a Democrat. Applications can be submitted to Hinds’ office, and are due by August 26th at noon.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
