June 14 marks the 20th anniversary of one the most memorable nights in New York hockey history, when the New York Rangers broke a 54-year curse and beat Vancouver for the Stanley Cup.
Some fans had been waiting their entire lives for that night, including perhaps the world’s No. 1 Rangers chronicler, Stan Fischler, better known in metro rinks as The Hockey Maven. Fischler was a charter member of the Rangers fan club in 1950 and has gone on to cover the Blueshirts — and the Devils, Islanders and the rest of the NHL— for decades, in print and on the air.
As another hockey season comes to a close, Fischler joins us to discuss his newest book, We Are The Rangers, an oral history of one of hockey’s original six out now from Triumph Books.
