Drug Suspect Shot And Killed By Officers In Burlington Raid

Vermont State Police say a 56-year-old man suspected of dealing heroin from his Burlington home was shot and killed when a state trooper and a federal Drug Enforcement Administration agent opened fire after the suspect pointed a weapon at them.
Police say Kenneth Stephens was killed Tuesday evening after the officers fired 13 rounds from their rifles after forcing their way into his apartment. Police did not say how many times Stephens was hit.

A muzzle-loading rifle with a scope was found near Stephens' body.

The names of the trooper and agent who fired their weapons were not released.

The DEA had been investigating Stephens for more than a month and a confidential informant bought drugs from him on several occasions.

Police say 16 officers took part in the raid.
