Spring is here, but people who spend their time outdoors may have already noticed an early visitor: the black-legged tick. Dr. Holly Ahern, a microbiologist at SUNY Adirondack and co-founder of the Lyme Action Network, explains to Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief Lucas Willard that the mild winter may have had an effect on tick populations — and possibly led to an increased risk of tick-borne disease.

Lucas Willard is a reporter and host at WAMC Northeast Public Radio, which he joined in 2011.
