Two local state lawmakers have announced legislation to assist residents affected by the water contamination issue surrounding Hoosick Falls, New York.
On Friday, Republican State Senator Kathy Marchione and Assemblyman John McDonald, a Democrat, introduced a bill that would allow anyone sickened by toxic chemicals to file a personal injury suit. Those affected could step forward within three years from when an area was declared a Superfund site.
Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics on McCaffrey Street in Hoosick Falls was classified as a Superfund site by state officials in late January. The building is being investigated as the source of the PFOA contamination that has been detected in the village water system and local private wells.
Exposure to the chemical has been linked to cancer and other ill-health effects.
