The Save Lake George Partnership is funding a program aimed at controlling the amount of road salt applied to highways in the Lake George watershed.
Small black boxes will be wired to equipment that distributes road salt. The boxes are expected to arrive and be mounted within the next two weeks.
The Post-Star of Glens Falls reports that the goal is to gather data from municipalities around Lake George to determine actual application rates and then come up with a targeted strategy for salt reduction in the region.
The state Department of Transportation and Warren County plows will not have the black boxes, but both support the effort.
The Fund for Lake George is providing about $65,000 for the program.
