A major wastewater collection and treatment facility project will move forward in the Adirondack town of Inlet thanks to a grant from New York State.
The Town of Inlet has received 1.734 million dollars in grants from the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation that will help them build a state-of-the-art wastewater collection and treatment facility. Inlet is between Fourth and Fifth Lakes in the Fulton Chain of Lakes in the Adirondack Park. Officials have been working for ten years to find a solution to problems caused by individual septic systems, but the very nature of the topography has been a challenge. Town of Inlet Supervisor John Frey says they are in a bowl bordered by ridgelines and water.
The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation announced this week that Inlet will receive a 1-point-534 million dollar grant in addition to an earlier 200-thousand dollar grant to help fund the wastewater project. President and CEO Matt Driscoll says there’s a couple reasons why the project is important.
The new grant will allow the project to move into the construction phase, according to Supervisor Frey.
Matt Driscoll is excited about the long-term environmental and economic impact of the project.
The 4.1 million dollar project is 85-percent grant funded.
