Rockland County Declares State Of Emergency Over Measles Outbreak

Rockland County Executive Ed Day has declared a state of emergency due to a measles outbreak in the area. Effective at midnight, officials say anyone under 18 years of age who is unvaccinated against the measles will be barred from public places until the declaration expires in 30 days or until they get the vaccination.

"There will not be law enforcement or deputy sheriffs asking for your vaccination records," Day said during a Tuesday afternoon press conference. "That is ridiculous. To repeat, that is not, nor will it ever be the focus of this effort. However, if you are found to be in violation of this declaration, your case will be referred to the district attorney's office. That just comes with the emergency declaration and is proscribed by law."

On Tuesday, Day said there were 153 confirmed measles cases in Rockland County.
