Following a measles outbreak in Rockland County, a health official in a nearby county is urging residents to check their vaccine status.
Westchester County Health Commissioner Dr. Sherlita Amler is recommending that residents verify their measles vaccine status, and says the health department is offering free MMR, or measles, mumps, rubella, vaccines to children and adults who are under-insured, uninsured or are college students. Amler says the moves come following the largest measles outbreak in New York in decades in Rockland County, which, as of Tuesday afternoon, counted 76 confirmed cases of measles, a highly contagious respiratory disease.
