Advocates Push For Publicly Funded Campaigns

The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University Law School reports more groups are urging New York's anti-corruption commission to recommend public financing for political campaigns.

The center cites calls by the New York Chamber of Commerce, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and commission co-chairman William Fitzpatrick as important voices for the cause.

The Brennan Center is adding them to its growing list of Friends of Reform.

Public financing of campaigns was rejected earlier this year by the Senate's Republicans who said they don't want scarce taxpayers' funds to be used to pay for political campaigns.

Supporters say it will combat corruption.

The Brennan Center once named New York's Legislature the "most dysfunctional in the nation."
