Albany, NY – As lawmakers return to Albany for the start of the 2012 legislative session, advocacy groups are holding their 22nd annual "People's State of the State" rally at the former Occupy Albany site in a park across from the Capitol. WAMC's Tristan O'Neill reports...
The rally is being held at noon today. Groups will call on Governor Andrew Cuomo to address income inequality, poverty, hunger and health care when he gives his State of the State address Wednesday in the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.
Specific issues being pushed by the groups include raising the state minimum wage to at least $10 an hour; getting the final year of the raise in the welfare basic grant; a state single payer health care program and increased funding for emergency food programs.
