The state’s economic development arm has once again denied a grant application to help get the Extreme Model Railroad and Contemporary Architecture Museum in North Adams, Massachusetts off the ground.
In August, North Adams and the Extreme Model Railroad and Contemporary Architecture Museum submitted a joint application to MassWorks for a $5.4 million grant to start renovating buildings for the proposed museum. The application was denied this month.
In September, people flocked to the proposed site of the museum at the Western Gateway Heritage State Park in North Adams – a few blocks from MASS MoCA –to see renowned architect Frank Gehry sign on to the project led by former Guggenheim Museum director Thomas Krens.
Krens expects to raise $65 million for the project by June 2018.
