Cheshire, Massachusetts officials will meet with state ecologists before making a decision on removing a dam.

Cheshire Selectmen and the state’s Division of Ecological Resources will meet next week to discuss the fate of the Kitchen Brook Dam.

The state has funded the repair or removal of the dam, which it issued a failing grade five years ago. Removal would cost $500,000.

The town’s Water Department wants the dam to be repaired, which would cost around $300,000. Water officials say the dam offers a less-polluted water supply than current wells.
