Bennington College has been awarded a $300,000 grant to continue its studies of PFOA, the chemical that has affected water supplies in Southern Vermont and upstate New York.
Bennington College faculty and students began researching PFOA after it was discovered in the Bennington area in early 2016.
The award from the National Science Foundation to faculty members David Bond, Janet Foley, and Tim Schroeder will expand the work for three more years.
The grant will also allow Union College in Schenectady to begin research as a partner.
PFOA has been linked to several illnesses including forms of cancer. It has affected water supplies in the Bennington area and nearby Hoosick Falls and Petersburgh, New York.
