CT Nears 4th Open Enrollment Period With Fewer Carriers, Higher Rates

Connecticut’s health exchange is entering its fourth open enrollment period with two less carriers than in years past. Anthem and ConnectiCare are increasing their rates 22 and 17 percent respectively.

Meanwhile rates for plans offered under the Affordable Care Act are spiking an average of 25 percent nationwide.  Access Health CEO Jim Wadleigh says that’s because healthcare costs continue to rise at unaffordable rates across the country.

“I’m always worried that negative publicity can be construed by our customers that the exchange is not on stable footings,” Wadleigh said of the media coverage of the nationwide increases. “And that is not correct.”

Wadleigh says Access Health CT expects to enroll up to 125,000 people from November 1 to January 31. That’s up from 116,000 last year.
