State and city officials are holding a ribbon cutting this afternoon to unveil a $4.8 million facelift of Pittsfield’s First Street Common.The city and state are celebrating the Common’s $4.8 million renovation that began with community input in 2010. The seven-acre park in the city’s downtown now features a new playground, promenade, splash park and more – as described by Pittsfield’s Park, Open Space and Natural Resource Program Manager Jim McGrath.
“The construction of new gazebo, bathroom building and a new performance pavilion where we’ll be able to host outdoor movies, theater and concerts,” McGrath said. “Additional lighting throughout the park, pathways and relocation of the basketball court which is one of the most heavily used amenities within the park.”
The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for noon Monday.
