The pre-Thanksgiving storm that hit New York’s Capital Region and western Massachusetts forced the city of North Adams to pull the plug on its Christmas tree lighting ceremonies. So the city is encouraging people to turn out for the rescheduled date.North Adams cancelled its ceremonies last Wednesday due to the impending storm that dropped several inches of heavy, wet snow on the region. With two trees bookending Main St., Mayor Richard Alcombright says this Wednesday’s 6 p.m. lighting will be a sight to see.

“It’s a good night for people to be out,” Alcombright said. “Typically we have, I’m guessing, 600 to 800 people that’ll show up right at the top of Main St. Certainly would welcome anyone from anywhere to come to our tree lighting. It’s quite an event to see the lights go up all the way down the street.”

Pittsfield holds its tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday in Park Square.
