The town of Washington, Massachusetts has dedicated Washington Mountain Road as a veterans byway to honor those who’ve served since September 11th. The official dedication ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Old Town Hall.Washington Mountain Road stretching from the Beckett to Dalton town lines will now be recognized as an Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Scenic Byway. As a Vietnam veteran, Washington Selectman Mike Case says the town wants to show its appreciation for the country’s newest veterans, support that was lacking when many came home from Vietnam.

“We decided let’s get out in front and let these guys know we appreciate what they did,” Case said. “They’ll have something to look at and physically see saying ‘Hey, I was a part of that.’”

Signs will mark the nine miles of scenic byway within the town.
