NYS Senator's Farewell Dinner To Raise Funds For Local Veteran

A dinner Tuesday evening for an outgoing state senator from the Hudson Valley will serve as a fundraiser for home repairs for a Vietnam War veteran.

New York State Republican Senator Greg Ball, who in May announced he would not seek re-election, is hosting the farewell dinner at the Mahopac Firehouse, to raise funds for renovations to Private Dan Flanigan’s home in Pawling, in Dutchess County. It’s a joint effort with nonprofit group Purple Heart Homes. Ball, chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, says it will be his final project before leaving office. Ball says, like many service-connected disabled veterans, Flanigan lives on a fixed income, is struggling to make ends meet, and his home is more than 100 years old and in dire need of repairs. The dinner, which starts at 5, is open to the public at $20 a plate.
