Shumlin Celebrates Veterans Laws

White River Junction VA Medical Center

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin says he's proud of the state's support of veterans and families, including health care at the White River Junction VA Medical Center.

Shumlin made the remarks Tuesday at a celebration of laws for veterans.

Bills were signed into law this session that include lowering the disability threshold for free hunting and fishing licenses and expedited processes for other types of licensing.

Shumlin says he was horrified by national reports of waitlists for veterans' health care. But in Vermont he says there is great quality of service for veterans.

According to a Department of Veterans Affairs report, White River Junction has better wait times than the national average.

Veteran health care has faced scrutiny amid internal reports of lengthy wait times and poor scheduling practices.
