VT Exchange Numbers Grow; Website Issues Persist

Enrollment numbers are growing for the new Vermont Health Connect health insurance exchange, but on its second day of operation, the system continued to struggle with a too-slow website.

Commissioner Mark Larson of the Department of Vermont Health Access — the state's point person on launching the new exchange — said Wednesday that staff in his department remained focused on improving the speed at which the website's pages open.

From moments after the launch of Vermont Health Connect on Tuesday, state officials were hearing complaints of pages opening very slowly or not at all on people's browsers.

As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, the site had had about 13,000 unique visitors, with 780 people opening accounts. Both numbers were more than double what they were at the end of business Tuesday.
