Vermont Senate Panel Hears Doctors Debate Wind Power

WAMC/Pat Bradley

The debate over the health effects of wind power turbines has moved to a Vermont Senate panel, with two doctors saying they're hearing real concerns from patients, and a British acoustics expert calling the concerns nonsense.

Senate Health and Welfare Committee Chairwoman Claire Ayer says she has no specific legislation in mind as of now. But she says her committee wanted a 101-level course in the debate over wind energy's health effects on people living near turbines.

The committee also heard from Luann Therrien of Sheffield, who said she and her family has suffered serious health problems, and that her husband has had to leave his job because the problems, including sleep loss and depression, have been so severe.
