New Leader Appointed For Massachusetts State Police

State Police Colonel Timothy Alben

A native of western Massachusetts is the new leader of the Massachusetts State Police.  WAMC’s Paul Tuthill reports.

      Timothy Alben was promoted to Colonel , Friday, and sworn in as the new Superintendent of the state police by Governor Deval Patrick.    Alben is a 30 year law enforcement veteran who earned criminal justice degrees at Westfield State College and Western New England University.  He was an investigator in the Hampden County District Attorney’s office and headed the State Police Organized Crime Unit in western Massachusetts.  He most recently supervised  field services..the largest division within the state police..  Alben succeeds Marian McGovern, the first woman to lead the Mass. State Police. She announced last month her intention to retire.
