Montpelier, VT – The Vermont Legislature has passed what is known as the Farmer Protection Act. It addresses what is know as drift , where seeds from one crop are carried on the winds onto another farmer's field. It's at issue because some farmers - especially organic growers - do not want to use genetically modified seeds and are concerned that if such seeds end up in their field, they could suffer economic losses. Vermont Governor James Douglas says he will veto the bill, which would allow farmers to sue the seed manufacturers. WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley has more.
