NY Gov Signs Outdoor Rx Act For Veterans

Pat Bradley/WAMC

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo earlier this week signed legislation that requires the state Division of Veterans’ Services to review issues relating to veterans' ability to access state parks, and facilities. A Hudson Valley assemblymember was a bill sponsor.

Democratic Assemblymember Didi Barrett, who chairs the Assembly Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, says the new law renders New York a leader in recognizing what outdoor recreation means to the health and welfare of veterans and military families. The Outdoor Rx Act, which Cuomo signed on Veterans Day, is the first step in identifying how New York can better address the needs of veterans adjusting back to civilian life through outdoor activity. The legislation takes effect immediately. Democrat Brian Benjamin of New York City sponsored the bill in the Senate.
