Veterans To Walk From Kingston To Albany To Raise Awareness

Pat Bradley/WAMC

Local veterans in the Hudson Valley are setting off on a 55-mile walk beginning Sunday, rain or shine. Congressman Antonio Delgado and Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan will be on hand at the start.

The Walk-A-Mile In My Shoes effort is to bring awareness to the needs of the veteran community along with alternative therapeutic programs that help in the fight against veteran/active duty suicide, mental health challenges, homelessness and sexual trauma. A second goal is to help the Hudson Valley Center for Veteran Reintegration fundraise. The walk departs from the Center’s office at Tech City in Kingston at 11:30 Sunday morning and heads nonstop to the state Capitol in Albany, an estimated 24 hours later after having trekked through 12 towns and cities paralleling the Hudson River.
