The City of Newburgh will be switching to one of its other sources of drinking water for a few months.
Newburgh will temporarily transition from the Catskill Aqueduct to Brown’s Pond on Friday. The city is reverting to Brown’s Pond for drinking water during a planned shutdown of the Catskill Aqueduct for inspections and repairs. City officials say water quality will remain the same, and they will issue a notification in January when Newburgh switches back to the Catskill Aqueduct. The city has been mainly drawing its water from the Catskill Aqueduct since PFOS contamination was found in Newburgh's main drinking water source — Washington Lake — in 2016.
