A property adjacent to Westchester Community College will be developed into affordable housing.
Construction and rehabilitation is slated to begin this fall at the six-acre WestHELP site off Knollwood Road. County government officials say the project had been long-stalled following years of political wrangling and discussions among the county, Town of Greenburgh, Valhalla School District and a neighborhood association. In October 2018, the county lawmakers approved an agreement with Marathon Development Group to renovate the site into 74 units of affordable senior rental housing, 20 additional units than in a previous proposal. The WestHELP site was developed into a county homeless shelter in the 1980s, but was closed in 2011 and left vacant.
