NYS DEC Issues Violation Notices For Saugerties Dumping Sites

The New York state Department of Environmental Conservation has issued two violation notices, citing illegal dumping at sites in Saugerties, in Ulster County.

The DEC’s violation notice issued to Joseph and Rachel Karolys July 1 directs the removal of all solid waste from three sites and mandates that there be no further dumping of such waste at the properties. A second notice, issued July 2, is a stop work order relating to construction activities at the sites. Erica Ringewald is DEC spokeswoman.

“DEC put Karolys on notice that his properties are in violation of the state’s solid waste and stormwater regulations, and we directed Karolys to immediately begin removing solid waste and dispose of it properly at a legal facility,” Ringewald says.

The DEC’s action comes after its May 17 inspection of the sites, and subsequent lab results.
