New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Friday that he signed three measures sponsored by a number of Hudson Valley lawmakers to rename roadways in the Mid-Hudson region in honor of fallen New York military heroes. Cuomo also signed such renaming bills in other parts of the state.
In Westchester County, a portion of Route 118 in Yorktown will become the "Army Captain Clayton Carpenter Memorial Highway." Clayton Carpenter, from Cortlandt Manor, was killed in 2014 during a training accident. Also in Westchester, a portion of Route 35 in Lewisboro will be renamed the "Marine Lance Corporal James J. Jackowski Memorial Highway.” Jackowski was one of the 239 Marines killed in the Beirut barracks bombings in 1983. A third bill designates a portion of Route 32 in Ulster County, as the "Private First Class Douglas Cordo Memorial Highway." Cordo, of Kingston, was killed during active duty in 2011 in Afghanistan, during an enemy attack.
