Rockland Water Restrictions Remain In Effect

Despite three days of rain last weekend that dropped nearly 2.5 inches over Rockland, the county executive says a water emergency remains in effect.

Rockland County Executive Ed Day says though the rain helped recharge reservoirs it was not enough to end water restrictions and the Stage II Water Emergency declared July 21 by the county’s health commissioner remains in effect. He says the rain delayed the county’s having to implement more severe restrictions, but the return of hot, dry weather could launch the county into Stage III in a week or so. Stage II restrictions include lawn watering twice a week during specific hours on certain days, a ban on car washing outside of commercial car washes and having restaurants serve water only at the customer’s request.
