Minisink Compressor Case Comes Before U.S. Court Of Appeals

WAMC, Allison Dunne

A case concerning a New York natural-gas compressor station in Orange County comes before a U.S. Court of Appeals Thursday morning.

Ten community-appointed Minisink residents, collectively known as Minisink Residents for Environmental Preservation and Safety, are the petitioners in the case before the District of Columbia U.S. Court of Appeals. They are challenging Millennium Pipeline Company, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s approval of the project, alleging wrongful siting of the compressor station, which is on a rural, residential road in the Hamlet of Westtown. The residents say they are appealing a 2012 decision that was split 3-2, with the former FERC chairman and current one dissenting. In March 2013, the U.S. Court of Appeals denied a motion by Millennium to have the case dismissed. The court also denied a request by opponents to halt construction of the compressor station, which has now been up and running for about one year.
